Thermal Analyzer Description
-
Thermal Analysis
- Measure properties of a sample as a function of time as a sample is
subjected to a controlled temperature program
- Most methods generate a curve of some parameter versus temperature
- Peaks and other events are interpreted as reactions and structural
changes in the sample
- TGA (Thermogravimetric Analysis)
- DSC (Differential Scanning Calorimetry)
- STA (Simultaneous Thermal Analyzer)
- Measures weight loss or gain of a material as a function of temperature or
time in a controlled atmosphere air or nitrogen.
- Tells at what temp. A material starts to degrade. Looks for flame retardants,
additives, aging, composition of blends.
- Measures heat flow changes as a function of sample temperature
- Measures transitions, reactions, decompositions, and heat capacity changes
- Combines DSC and TGA, simultaneously on a single sample
