WITH THE ISO 5659 CONICAL RADIATOR FURNACE
| The NBS Smoke Chamber has been under-utilised because it cannot readily be used for testing of thermoplastics and it only offers one heat flux for testing even though smoke generation is known to vary with incident heat flux. The conical Radiator Furnace (CRF) available from Fire Testing Technology, is designed for use with the NBS Smoke Chamber, It incorporates a truncated cone radiation furnace, similar to that used with the Cone Calorimeter(ISO 5660) and the lgnitability Test(ISO 5657) for use with a horizontal oriented specimen. it can be fitted to Smoke Chambers conforming to ASTM E662 and BS 6401. |
ADVANTAGES OVER THE EXISTING NBS SMOKE CHAMBER EQUIPMENT:
- Horizonal Orientation of sample prevents dripping and thermal distortion of sample which modifies exposure from furnace and gives uncertainty in test results.
- Variable heat flux range from 10 to 50 kW/m2 - for a better understanding of smoke generation under a variety of irradiation conditions. This enables a wider range of fire conditions to be modelled in this apparatus than when using the traditional NBS single value heat flux vertical furnace.
- Available with a weighing device to enable the user to monitor mass loss during the course of the test. This is invaluable because in some cases mass loss rate can be correlated with heat release rate.
- Simple installation and removal from NBS Smoke Chamber.
- Supplied with own Control Unit allowing installation to all makes of Smoke Chambers.
- Pilot burner fitted with spark ignition and gas safety alarm and cut-out device.
- Supplied with heat flux meter and housing to fix position of meter accurately at 25mm below the base of the cone.
- Stainless steel is used throughout the construction to ensure good corrosion resistance.
