Marionette Description
At the hight of its popularity 1820 and 1885 the puppet therate in Burma was considered superior to the live therate such was the degree of skill and expertise exhibited by the puppeteers. The ah-yoke-kyo-ka nbsp; nbsp;(dance of the string one ) was even executed by dancers at court and at perforences for the common people . An early set of Burmese marionette probably consisted of a pair of male and female human figures plus familiar creatures such as the horse elephant monkey and tiger. The puppets would have danced and acted out short scences from Buddhist stories and folk-tales . In time the role of the couple grew in importance and they came to be known as the Mintha (Prience) and Minthamee (Princess) .Artis who decorated the interiors of tmeples with scences from religious and secular stories were probably those same people called upon to paint marionettes.
