Perlite is an acerbic, silicious, and vocalnic glass lava containing crystal water, falling into the category of igneous rock. After its particles incinerated by high temparature, crystal water in the rocks evaporates, and the perlite expands sharply at the rate of 15 to 20 times, then forms into expanded pearlite rich in closed and open blowholes ,and then into perlite filter aids of special performance after being carefully grounded and winnowed.

The perlite filter aid is a kind of white solid powder composed of inert amorphous vitreum particles, whose main components are potassium, sodium, and aluminosilicate without peculiar smell and containing no organic substance in itself.Treatment of perlite by high temparature in the process of production shall be upgraded to the effects of sterilization and elimination of organic substance ,therefore the perlite filter aid with a very low solubility & strong chemical stability in organic acid and inorganic acid can not affact the color ,smell and taste of the filtrate .And its usage is completely the same as diatomite.

Each particle of the perlite filter aid is of quite irreguler coiled lamina and has 80-90% of porosity when forming filter cake,because of the interlinked capillary of each particle ,it is possible to filter rapidly and moreover is able to catch particles with size of 0.1 micron .
