Metallothionein Description
MT is the English abbreviation for the metallothionein.
In 1985, the international name commission gave MT a clear definition that MT is a protein or active polypeptide with destinctive functions which is a low molecular weight, richly contains sulfydryls (-SH) and can mass-combine with heavy metal ions.
Since MT has the distinctive functions, outstanding effects and broad application prospects, so it has been listed into major research projects by scientists of all the countries, UNESCO and national "863" plan of China. But until 1995, it has not made substantial progress in application, every thing was in the test period, and the price was very expensive, international price was USD 66.5/mg.
In 1994, S&T company gathered a numbers of experts and scholars and started to research industrialization of MT, develop and produce MT. In 1996, we finally made the producing-technology of MT to come out a qualitative leap through innumerable-repeatedly seperating, extracting and purifying: 1. S&T company can large-scale produce MT of high quality and low price and make the output of rabbit liver to be 2 times more than the output reported on literatures by selecting for using high performance inducer. 2. Purity of MT has come up to the advanced international level, the purity highly reached 97.6%, by using the high performance specific absorbed resin, Just using one time of column chromatography the high purity of MT can be got from coarse liquid of rabbit liver and it reduces the time of purifying and increases the output and rate of recovery. 3. The stability and absorbed rate of MT in stomach of human body have been increased. We selected a simple and effective embedding agent, so it makes the peptic degradation rate to drop to 9.0% from 84.5% of comparison. It has resolved the difficulty that MT is unstable in stomach. 4. Enhancing functions of MT to human body, we found a Chinese medicine that has a coordinated function with MT, so it greatly increases the functions of MT.
Thus it can seen that the technology level of S&T company producing MT has come up to the advanced level of the world.
